Dear colleagues,
We are happy to announce that the UK series of online lectures in instrumentation will return for 2024, just a few weeks from now.
As with last year, the lectures are free and open to all participants, at any stage of their career, and are intended to cover the foundation topics for solid-state detector physics.
Please find the detailed timetable, along with registration details, at:
https://indico.cern.ch/e/ukinst2024
The programme covers many aspects of solid state R&D, split into several streams of ~8 hours each:
• Semiconductor Theory
• Electronics and DAQ
• Mechanics and cooling
• Fabrication and structures
• Experimental techniques
• TCAD electric field and transport simulations
• Software tools
• Short topics
Lectures will be held on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings, beginning the week of April 22 . There are 8 hours of material each week, for around 8 weeks, but participation in a subset of lectures or topics is happily encouraged.
Please feel free to forward this to any institutes/individuals who you think may be interested. We hope that this may be of general use to the community, and we will ask for feedback throughout the programme.
Note that this year there will be an in-person summer school, hosted by the University of Oxford in July, to provide hands-on experience following on from the material shown online. While participation is fully funded for UK (STFC) PhD students, a limited number of places will be reserved for international students. If there is sufficient interest then this may be further opened in coming years. More details will be circulated shortly.
Kind regards,
Daniel, on behalf of the steering committee
